Poppy Seed Bread

Tis the season... for poppy seed bread! I only seem to make this around Christmas time. This batch was made for the purpose of thanking my neighbor's the Barlow's for helping fix my car and my other neighbor Sunny for lending me her rolling pin. Two more loaves are going to other neighbors and one to my sister simply because she is addicted to it. That leaves one for Greg and I to share and he just informed me that he ate most of it but left SOME for me. We will see how much "some" is...

But here is the recipe. It's my mom's recipe and it is sooooo good!!!!

Ingredients:
3 cups flour
1 1/3 cups cooking oil
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
3 eggs
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 Tbsp. poppy seeds
2 1/2 cups sugar
3 tsp. vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups milk
3 tsp. almond extract

Mix together and pour into 2 bread pans or 6 mini-loaf pans (pans must be greased/floured). Bake at 350 degrees for 50-60 minutes.

Frosting:
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1 tsp. almond extract
1/4 cup orange juice
2 Tbsp. melted butter

Mix together and pour over hot cake while it is still in the pans. After the bread is cooled, remove from pans, wrap in plastic wrap and then foil. Freeze until ready to serve.

There you go and it is really easy too. Happy baking and Merry Christmas!!!!

  1. Wow that sounds yummy! Way better than banana bread, which has no frosting! Greg is too funny!
